Swiss manufacturers and exporters

Manage product versions and records for different markets in one dossier. EU requirements may be relevant to EU market access without thereby automatically becoming Swiss domestic law.

Existing obligations

The Swiss Machinery Ordinance and product-safety law form separate foundations. SECO provides information on applicable rules and changes. An EU Regulation does not apply in Switzerland automatically merely because it applies in the EU.

New mandatory requirements

New Swiss requirements depend on Swiss legal acts and their entry into force. For the EU market, the applicable rules and transitional arrangements must be considered separately.

An optional digital capability

Separate evidence structures for Swiss requirements, EU regulatory frameworks and internal requirements. Shared records can be referenced more than once; market and version links remain visible.

New role and responsibility consequences

Swiss operators with EU installations or an EU sales market, as well as exporters and system integrators, must examine their specific role. Changes to machinery can trigger different obligations depending on the market.

Keep data protection in view

The Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection and the GDPR, where applicable, are considered separately in the contractual and data-protection framework. Customer documents are not used for third-party purposes.

Records for operation in Switzerland

Operation in Switzerland is subject to its own requirements. Before use, check matching operating and maintenance instructions, in German, French or Italian according to the workplace’s needs. Machinery acquired after 1 January 1997 normally also requires a declaration of conformity. Partly completed machinery requires a declaration of incorporation and assembly instructions. For older machinery, assess the earlier legal basis and minimum requirements separately; a missing new declaration is not automatically a violation.

Maintenance, instruction and conditional inspections

Completed maintenance must be recorded: who maintained what and when? Instruction and necessary training must be traceable; repetition depends on need and working conditions. Where damaging influences or exceptional events apply, plan and document the necessary inspections. Do not transfer German annual intervals or German industrial safety requirements across the board.

Separate from the Germany check

This website’s documentation check exclusively covers making products available and using them in Germany. Its English and Chinese versions have the same scope. Swiss cases require a separate assessment of market, role, product state and Swiss legal foundations.
